Technically not quite within the parish boundary, an accident which occurred on the Bridge End roundabout (A69) involved an articulated lorry and no other vehicles. The A69 suffered from a 5 mile tailback of traffic and the centre of Hexham was almost gridlocked because traffic trying to leave the town was being directed by traffic wardens back into Alemouth road and Station road. It would have aleviated the situation if some traffic had been allowed out of Hexham over the rail and river bridges and then directed into Ferry Road at Bridge End towards Corbridge.
