In January 2005, Anick Haugh, the Tyne Valley between Hexham and Corbridge, suffered heavy flooding, particularly at the inhabited east end near Corbridge. Many properties were flooded. For a brief time, shortly before these photographs were taken, the water lay almost unbroken between the Corbridge road in the south and the A69.

In spite of the recent work to build flood defences, the valley is, according to the Environment Agencies web site, still at risk from flooding. Most of Sandhoe parish, however, is at very little risk, but for those who are curious the Agency's map of the river Tyne at risk of flooding can be seen here.
