The Sounds of Anick

Over the last few months regular overnight recordings have been made of the noises generated by the Egger factory.  Naturally, there have been other noises recorded and some of them are represented here.

This is what the Tyne Valley should sound like:  Play this first to get an idea of how much noise intrusion there really is.

All the samples on this page (except those marked * were recorded from exactly the same position and location using the same equipment and recording configuration for each session.  None of these samples have been edited except to shorten them.  Most of the samples are just a couple of seconds in length.  Remember to close each sound window before opening another.

The night of 26 April was particularly noisy.  Hear for yourself.

All the following were recorded during late April 2008
Typical noise levels at 1am - on a quiet night
Typical noise levels at 1.40am - lambs and sheep
Typical noise levels at 2.20am - Egger's log handling process
Typical noise levels at 4.20am - agricultural bird scarer starts up
Typical noise levels at 5am - dawn chorus begins
Typical noise levels at 5.15am - birds & lorries
Typical noise levels at 5.20am - birds and a train
Typical noise levels at 8.20am - mostly A69 road noise

These 3 recordings were made on the night of 3 April 2008.  The samples you hear are extracts from an 8 hour recording made through the night and demonstrate clearly the range of noise intrusion suffered by residents in Oakwood and Anick.
Reversing alarms fitted to vehicles but supposedly banned at night (Recorded at 3.15am)
External log handling process - every 1.5 minutes through the night
Machinery failure - a plate broke loose, but the equipment was not stopped for hours (1.51am)

*This general whining noise and the squeaking of conveyors was recorded at a point between Oakwood and Beaufront
Whine & squeaking at night (11 November 2007)*

*This recording was made on 22 August 2007 and has not been edited other than in length to provide continuity.  Otherwise you would be listening to 30 minutes of it.
